Posted 4:01pm

Worshipers gathered at the Presbyterian Center chapel Wednesday to celebrate a once-in-a-generation event — the revision of the PC(USA)’s Book of Common Worship. As they participated in a bilingual service from 2018 edition, they were encouraged by 2018 BCW co-editor David Gambrell to worship “in whatever language speaks to your hearts.” Read more »

On any given day, one could walk past Susan Stack’s office to find her poring over paperwork, writing reports or taking phone calls. It wasn’t just a job; it was her life. Stack served as an associate with the Presbyterian Health, Education & Welfare Association (PHEWA) for 34 years, helping people who dealt with everything from domestic violence to AIDS. Read more »

A teen’s perspective on gun control

Posted 7:45am

In 2016, when I was 12 years old, I read an article about a boy half my age named King Carter who was gunned down less than a mile from my home in Miami Shores. King was walking to a convenience store to buy candy when he was killed in the crossfire between two drug-dealing gangs. After reading about his tragic story, I didn’t understand why he had to die. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s Office of Public Witness has been on the front lines of advocacy in Washington, D.C., since 1946. Posted 6:01am

Read more »

Partnership inspires creation of Presbyterian Peace Network for Korea

Posted 6:00am

Soon after my wife, Hyeyoung Lee, and I began our mission co-worker assignment in South Korea, a Presbyterian elder from Cayuga-Syracuse Presbytery, Linda Russell, called to tell us that her presbytery has been maintaining a Korean Partnership Team for over a decade. Linda suggested this team might be interested in our work as site coordinators of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) program. We felt our excitement for the work ahead reciprocated. That began what has been a long and fruitful partnership with Cayuga-Syracuse Presbytery. Read more »

A church for the wounded and vulnerable

Posted 9:36pm

In his mid-20s with a well-paying job at a startup logistics firm in Manhattan, Chris Romine was wondering if this was all there was. Exploring all kinds of faith expressions, he kept coming back to the simple message of Christ’s life. Within two years he was hired by a nondenominational church in Hoboken, New Jersey, to plant a neighboring church in Jersey City. But his faith was shattered six months later. Read more »
