“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:5
Advent/Christmas greetings to you from the Moes in Spokane, Washington!
In the midst of the darkness this year – sickness, delayed plans, hurricanes, political tension – we cling to God’s promise that the darkness has not and will not overcome the light of Jesus Christ.
CEDEPCA, our partner in Guatemala, continues to shine light in the darkness; in November, their Disaster Ministry division was able to deliver food kits, blankets, and psychological support to the areas hardest hit by the hurricanes, using funds sent by Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and others. CEDEPCA staff have continued to offer online classes for church leaders and women on the margins. The program I (Betsey) am a part of – Intercultural Encounters – has held meaningful Virtual Journeys designed to connect people from the U.S. and Canada with the people of Guatemala and the pressing issues that tie us together. This year, CEDEPCA has graciously welcomed me into their staff team, and I am grateful for the ability to work remotely with them until we move to Guatemala, God willing, next summer.
Here in Washington, as in other parts of the U.S., we are under new orders to stay home to help flatten the curve. Our kids are all doing online school, and our movement outside the house is limited (although we try to get outside for dog walks, sledding, or running/hiking whenever possible).
One thing is certain however, the Spirit of God continues to move, bringing light into all the dark corners of our world. YOUR partnership with us is a sign to us that the darkness has not overcome the light. We genuinely thank you for your caring, your prayers, and for your financial support.
Peace to you!
Eric, Betsey, Henry, Owen, and Zoey Moe
