Dear friends,
We are so thankful to be able to say that we have returned to Malawi after two years and nine days of living in the United States as requested by Presbyterian World Mission. We arrived back in Malawi on April 6 and quickly started to resettle. On April 19, Tyler started back teaching with the University of Livingstonia Faculty of Theology Master’s students. Twelve students are in this new cohort studying Theology and Development or Theology and Gender Studies. These students are already committed practitioners working in their communities or with Government and Non-Government Organizations. It is exciting to see the University’s vision expand of bringing a thoughtful Christian perspective to help develop society to individuals whose vocations extend beyond those traditionally served by the Faculty of Theology. Undergraduate students are also well through their semester, which will end on May 20. Tyler was warmly welcomed back to celebrate with the fourth year (senior undergraduate level) students this week who will soon graduate from their studies. Fourteen ministers and three lay leaders are about to begin their next stage after graduation; we are thankful for their time and studies at the University of Livingstonia and wish them well.
While Tyler is back to teaching in class, we continue to limit our interactions as COVID-19 remains very much a concern. Currently, 8% of the Malawian population has received at least a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. While we are hearing the Omicron peak of December/January is now at the tail end, there has been a recent uptick of cases in South Africa in the last few weeks.
