The farm where I work, Garden of Eve, is featured in the film "Farming the Future: Farm Life on Long Island." Chris Kaplan-Walbrecht, the farmer and my boss, is interviewed in this documentary, also featuring Farm Aid President Willie Nelson.<\/p>\n
I just watched the film last night, and was struck by the history of farming on an island characterized so often by the Hamptons. The problem, of course, is that more and more farms are being sold off for development, and once the land is gone, it’s gone forever. Long Island has some of the best growing in the whole country, and serves the important market of New York City. Family farmers are struggling, innovating, and praying to keep their businesses, lifestyles, and heritage alive. <\/p>\n
