This year, the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and regional shortages spread the pain even wider. Here in the United States, food chain supply issues, inflation, and the end of COVID policies like the universal school meal program threaten food security. These times call on us to address hunger courageously by meeting immediate needs and by restructuring the food system to one that can better respond to these crises.<\/p>\n<p>The Food Week of Action &#8211; October 10-17 &#8211; will highlight the myriad ways churches and organizations are building a more humane, fair and responsive food system that puts people and the planet before profits. World Food Day, on October 16 every year, is the inspiration behind the Food Week of Action. This year, so far 85 churches, community groups, and nonprofits have joined Food Week as cosponsors.<\/p>\n<p>Your congregation and groups you work with are invited to jump onboard. Twelve PCUSA congregations cosponsored last year and we&#8217;d love more this year!<\/p>\n<p>Help us celebrate the ministries, events and actions we are collectively taking to end hunger and its causes, and to protect God\u2019s precious Creation.<\/p>\n<p>There is no cost to cosponsor and the only commitment is to continue your ministry, announce an action or event happening in October (if you have one), and announce your participation in Food Week. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.presbyterianmission.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/bulletin-insert-Food-Week-of-Action-202253.doc\">Here is a bulletin insert<\/a> you can use and you can find more information on the <a href=\"https:\/\/pcusa.org\/foodweek\">Food Week webpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Send an email to <a href=\"mailto:andrew.kangbartlett@pcusa.org\">andrew.kangbartlett@pcusa.org<\/a> if your congregation \u2013 and\/or a community group you work with \u2013 would like to cosponsor the 2022 Food Week.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Your gifts to <a href=\"https:\/\/pma.pcusa.org\/donate\/make-a-gift\/gift-info\/OG999999\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">One Great Hour of Sharing<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.presbyterianmission.org\/donate\/H999999\/\">Hunger Fund<\/a> support the Presbyterian Hunger Program and our dozens of partners working globally to end hunger and its causes.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"For about a billion people in the world, every day is a food crisis.
