Let me know if you\u2019d like to co-sponsor the 2020 Food Week.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>See the <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/open?id=1pGnS_YCVNuqoI8G6h6jNiDzlWLY&amp;usp=sharing\">Food Week Map of Actions and Events<\/a> and the Presbyterian News Service article, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.presbyterianmission.org\/story\/food-week-of-action-will-focus-on-life-and-death-issues\/\">Food Week of Action will focus on \u2018life and death\u2019 issues<\/a>\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On World Food Day, we added the <strong>54 new Hunger Action Congregations that joined this year to together make 164 total HACs<\/strong>. Did you see the Presbyterian News Service <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presbyterianmission.org\/story\/pcusa-celebrates-hunger-action-congregations-on-world-food-day\/\">article<\/a> <\/strong>about it?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve plotted all of you on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/u\/0\/edit?mid=1beWuj61qIXeaXH1-uK8axhWAFjxBfBm2&amp;ll=38.890007858516604%2C-86.17941613335859&amp;z=7\">U.S. map with purple crosses<\/a> (purple is the Hunger Program\u2019s unofficial mascot color, by the way). Check it out\u2026 the cluster in Giddings-Lovejoy (MO) is quite impressive!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\">Farmworkers announce major<\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\">Wendy\u2019s Boycott mobilization in NYC, Nov. 18, 2019!<\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2064 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.presbyterianmission.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/CIW_NYC_Wendys_March0-9-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"protesters marching in NYC\" width=\"380\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/centernet.pcusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/CIW_NYC_Wendys_March0-9-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/centernet.pcusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/CIW_NYC_Wendys_March0-9.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 380px) 100vw, 380px\" \/><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>For over five years, the CIW has been calling on Wendy\u2019s to take responsibility for ending the generational poverty and rampant sexual assault that continues unabated on farms outside of the Fair Food Program.<\/p>\n<p>Following 2018\u2019s two powerful marches through the streets of Manhattan \u2013 the <a href=\"http:\/\/ciw-online.org\/blog\/2018\/03\/times-up-wendys-march\/\">Time\u2019s Up Wendy\u2019s March<\/a>, which marked the culmination of the Freedom Fast and was joined by thousands of consumers, <em>and<\/em> the <a href=\"http:\/\/ciw-online.org\/blog\/2018\/07\/how-much-longer-wendys\/\">\u201cHow Much Longer, Wendy\u2019s?\u201d March<\/a> \u2013 farmworkers and consumers from across the region will be gathering in New York to once again take to the streets to demand farm labor justice from Wendy\u2019s on November 18th of this year. I will be among Presbyterians joining the march in New York next month.<\/p>\n<p>Following the 2018 Freedom Fast and Time\u2019s Up Wendy\u2019s March, the fast food giant <a href=\"http:\/\/ciw-online.org\/blog\/2018\/06\/half-way-home\/\">announced at the company\u2019s annual shareholder meeting in June<\/a> of that same year that it would be shifting its tomato purchases from Mexico to U.S. and Canadian greenhouses, responding to consumer pressure over the abysmal human rights conditions in Mexico\u2019s produce industry. But the Fair Food Nation will not rest until Wendy\u2019s joins other fast-food giants \u2013 McDonald\u2019s, Burger King, Taco Bell, Subway, and Chipotle \u2013 in supporting the only proven solution to ending human rights abuse in U.S. agriculture, the Fair Food Program.<\/p>\n<p>These are the words of CIW\u2019s Lupe Gonzalo, speaking to hundreds of cheering consumers in New York last July:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2026 Once again, we are here to demonstrate our strength. We have made it clear to Wendy\u2019s that we will not give up until they join the Fair Food Program. After our fast of five days in this very same place, in the cold, enduring hunger, marching with 2,000 people in the streets of New York, we have taken an important step forward: Wendy\u2019s will now only buy tomatoes from the U.S. and Canada. But another, bigger step remains \u2013 and that is to sign a Fair Food Agreement. We will not be satisfied until Wendy\u2019s responds directly to us as workers \u2013 because to simply buy from greenhouses is not equivalent to ensuring justice and human rights.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><em>Be in solidarity with the farmworkers by taking one of these actions:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Submit a letter to the editor or an op\/ed <\/strong>to your local paper to amplify farmworkers\u2019 call for Fair Food.
