Laura Henderson, Executive Director of Growing Places
In addition to founding Growing Places Indy, Laura loves her role creating and evolving the Summer Apprenticeship Program to encompass a multi-dimensional focus on urban agriculture, food systems, wellness and sustainability. Laura also founded the Indy Winter Farmers Market in 2008, is a registered yoga instructor, and teaches multiple classes each week at Invoke Studio. Laura is a consultant to Eskenazi Health on the development of a roof top farm to open in 2014. She serves on the Butler University Center for Urban Ecology Advisory Committee, the Indy Food Fund Committee, and has consulted numerable urban agriculture, food and sustainability related organizations, projects, and events.
Jeremy John, Quixote Center
Jeremy has been an activist ever since he accidentally ate the red pill instead of the more harmless blue one. In 2003, Jeremy spent six months in prison working to close the School of the Americas, converting to Christianity while he was imprisoned. He currently coordinates the Crabgrass Christians Initiative at the Quixote Center, building grassroots alternative food economies in faith institutions that embody the beloved community. He was a participant in Occupy DC’s lay chaplaincy. He maintains a personal blog at glassdimly.com.
Laura Collins, Healthy Food for All Program Coordinator, CAIN
Laura coordinates nutrition programming at Churches Active in Northside (CAIN), planning events and classes, training volunteers in the garden, coordinating fresh produce pickups at the Freestore Foodbank and other donation sources, and grantseeking and program writing for healthy food initiatives at CAIN and in Northside. Laura really likes to garden and ride bikes, and volunteers her spare time at the MOBO Bicycle Cooperative.
