The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) calls for an end to the cash bail system which unfairly criminalizes and perpetuates the cycle of poverty. Every day in this country, hundreds of thousands of people sit behind bars, awaiting the outcome of their case, simply because they cannot afford bail. This has been a driving force in the increase in mass incarceration over the last 15 years, resulting in job loss, mounting fines and child custody issues.

The PC(USA) and its partners work with local organizations in cities around the country to help individuals get out of jail and rebuild their lives. Assisting people with bail gives them the chance to continue their lives and represent themselves in court with integrity.
