SUMMARY:Matthew 25 eradicating systemic poverty workshop on community organizing and advocacy
DESCRIPTION:This online workshop will cover concepts of community organizing\, movement building\, and public policy/corporate policy advocacy as vital models for tackling root causes of poverty. We will have a speaker from a local Congregation Based Community Organization (CBCO) on community organizing\, someone from the Office of Public Witness to address policy advocacy\, and we hope someone from Poor People’s Campaign or another strong movement to talk about how to build people’s power and movements. We hope to also have someone from a presbytery that’s used elements of these models “in real life”/”on the gound” to participate.

SUMMARY:Matthew 25 eradicating systemic poverty workshop on measuring impact
DESCRIPTION:We know the shifts we need to make personally\, corporately and systematically in order to end poverty. How do we know if our work to end poverty does in fact contribute towards the systemic and structural changes needed to truly do so? What are the critical elements of measuring our impact that help us to look at big picture questions? Andrew Kang Bartlett of the Presbyterian Hunger Program will introduce “Whole Measures\,” a tool that can be used to qualitatively assess efforts to eradicate hunger and poverty in communities. Respondents will include staff from Self-Development of People and World Mission.

SUMMARY:Antisemitism\, Israel-Palestine and the Church: A conversation
DESCRIPTION:Rabbi Alana Suskin of the Maryland Poor People’s Campaign\, A National Call for Moral Revival\, is an activist\, educator\, and managing editor of Jewschool.com. Among many things\, her work includes helping Christian communities understand antisemitism and how to effectively advocate for the rights of Palestinians. She and Rev. Denise Anderson will offer a forum based on personal conversations they’ve had to discuss these issues and answer questions Presbyterians may have. Rabbi Suskin offers a distinct perspective on these matters\, believing that Christians should have a critique of Israeli occupation that is in conversation with equally-concerned Jewish siblings. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Congregation-Based Community Organizing: The Why\, What and How in 60 Minutes!
DESCRIPTION:Congregation-Based Community Organizing\, or CBCO\, is a powerful strategy for eradicating poverty\, dismantling racism\, and building congregational vitality. CBCO will energize your congregation and help connect you with community members and groups as you pursue justice and attempt to live out your call as a Hunger Action\, Earth Care\, or Matthew 25 church. \nReverend Alison Dunn-Almaguer\, Senior Organizer for the Washington Interfaith Network (WIN)\, will lead a dynamic session on the why\, what and how of community organizing – and you are invited to spend an hour with us as we explore this powerful missional approach. Those ignited by the idea will have a chance to participate in a more in-depth training session in spring of 2023. \nHosted by the Presbyterian Hunger Program and Matthew 25 \nYou are invited to a Zoom meeting.\nWhen: Nov 16\, 2022 12:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nRegister in advance for this meeting:\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJ0rd-morDItGtw2UPdIwCqtaKZYo-zu21sS   \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

SUMMARY:Connecting the Dots: Militarism and Moral Injury Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Military personnel are asked to serve on behalf of our country\, laying their lives on the line to follow military directives. The impact of this service on personnel and their families can be great\, therefore military action should never be used prematurely. By confronting militarism\, the church is called to challenge an ideology that prioritizes military responses and unjustifiably endangers the lives of civilians\, personnel and their families. As well\, the church is called to offer genuine support for all those impacted by war and military action. \nIn this webinar\, Connecting the Dots: Militarism and Moral Injury\, we hope to hear of the impact military service has on active personnel\, veterans\, and their families\, and how the church can offer better support to these communities. We will be hearing from veterans\, academics\, and psychologists\, who all have experience in the field of study that has been termed “Moral Injury”\, examining the impacts of military service and the effect that can occur “in response to acting or witnessing behaviors that go against an individual’s values and moral beliefs.” \nRegistration: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_RPUvOiuOSyutEN-bUpETKQ \n
